So I just heard that this company is developing this ‘fantastic new technology’ that will revolutionize the way we travel.  So, here’s the premise: this plane-like flying machine launches you and the other occupants into sub-orbit where you then proceeed to fly crazy-fast to anywhere in the world you wish.  Here’s the problem with that; I find the idea of an airplane to be crazy enough, let alone chucking one of those things up in the sky at an altitude as high as over 100 CN Towers stacked on top of one another.  Apparently, this ‘fantastic new technology’ will alllow you to fly to China in like 2 hours, but to be honest I would rather stay within the earth’s atmosphere for a couple more than venture into the nether-regions of the universe just to go get a Hello-Kitty backpack.  I just hope that people realize that this sort of idea is scary and that us, as a society, are not ready for this.  If planes are still not 100% reliable, why push the envelope this far.  I predeict that this technology does one of 2 things: fails dismally and ruins the lives of a select few or is ultimately realized as superflous.

Ad Hoc Measures

Frantic bodies are rushing through the room

Tiny voices softly pleading

Shaking fingers tremble with uncertainty

Matching the beats of their hearts

Bring me a prophet or a crystal ball

And burn them on the pyre

As their cinders dissolve into the air

I can see the open gate

The defenseless innocent are now held in account

Prodded upward by their ransom

Lonely prayers fumble for the light

But the wires have been severed
